SO… Gettin' the HELL out of dodge are ya? That's awesome! So did we. We traveled a couple thousand miles away to get married. One of our greatest concerns and nightmares was securing the right photographers for our special day up in the mountains. Luckily after many weeks of online searching, we found an amazing photography team and were totally impressed with the results. Of course since we're photographers, it was easy for us to identify the do's and don'ts of outstanding photography.
Unfortunately, this can be another situation where couples can be taken major advantage of without even knowing it. Please BE AWARE that when planning your destination wedding photography your on-site wedding coordinator at the all-inclusive, travel agency, and resort hotel-style venues will probably tell you "your photographer's fee is bundled into the packages and you will meet your photographer when you arrive." The good news especially in this economy is you can usually negotiate to customize the packages and tell the coordinator you're not interested unless you're allowed to bring your own photographer. After negotiating they should at least allow you to bring a co-photographer, if not an exclusive one. WARNING: not talking with your photographer until the day of the wedding, could invoke unnecessary stress, anxiety and yikes! a bride-zilla. Photography is a very important aspect of your special day. Why not personally select your favorite photographer to travel with you?
Whether you are going to China or Indiana, high atop the mountains or down low on a beach, traveling is our life – we'll go with you and usually for next to nothing.
